Extension/Compensating Conductor

Extension Compensating Conductor

Extension Conductors

Extension conductors are typically made from alloys that match or closely resemble the thermocouple conductors they connect to. This is done to minimize the introduction of additional temperature-related errors. For example, when extending a Type K thermocouple conductors, the extension conductors would also be made from Nickel-Chromium (NiCr) and Nickel-Aluminum (NiAl) alloys to maintain consistency in the electrical properties and temperature characteristics of the overall system.

Compensating Conductors

Compensating conductors are designed to offset errors introduced by temperature variations along the length of the conductors. These cables often use alloys that exhibit similar thermoelectric properties to the thermocouple conductors but may not be identical. For instance, for a Type K thermocouple conductors, a compensating conductors might use alloys like Nickel-Iron (Ni-Fe) or Copper-Nickel (Cu-Ni). The goal is to minimize temperature-induced errors during the signal transmission process.
