The Type E thermocouple is a commonly used thermocouple which provides stronger signal and higher accuracy as compared to Type K and Type J at moderate temperature range of 1000°F and lower. The Type E has higher stability when compared to type K thermocouple due to which it provides good accuracy. Compared to Type K and Type J, the type E thermocouple range stands out for its higher stability and sensitivity, making it a smart choice for applications that demand precise and consistent measurements.

Properties of Type E Thermocouple range
- 다른 모든 표준보다 학위당 가장 높은 EMF가 생성됩니다.
- Provide High output (68μV/°C) due to which it is well suited to cryogenic applications
- Provide High Resistance
- E thermocouples non-magnetic
- Type E thermocouple temperature range provides a wide-range of -50°C to +740°C and a narrow range of -110°C to+140°C.
- Type E can come in variety of designs suited to different applications:-
- Mineral Insulated Type E:- Metal sheath insulated with magnesium oxide powder also called
- Cable/Wire Type E:- Flexible sensors in PVC,PTFE or Glass Fibre. Many cold and hot-end
- Type E with Metal Sheath:- High Temperature design with metal protection sheath.
- Type E Inserts:- Rigid metal tubes and ceramic insulators are commonly used in pocket, thermowell or head

Why to Choose Type E Thermocouple?
Composition
The E type thermocouple material is a positive leg composed of approximately 90% nickel, 10 % chromium which is commonly known as Chromel and a negative leg, which is approximately 95% nickel, 2% aluminum, 2% manganese and 1% silicon commonly known as Constantan.
This composition gives the e thermocouple its high output and stable characteristics.
Type E Insulation Material
In Type E Thermocouple, mainly MgO insulation is used. Due to many desirable characteristics of MgO such as fast response, compact size, broad temperature range, formability, weld ability, durability, accuracy, thermal shock and vibration resistance makes it an excellent choice for virtually all laboratory or process applications. The standard MgO insulation consists of ANSI/ASTM standard limits of error conductor material and standard (96%) pure insulation.
MgO Insulation provides initial calibration tolerances for thermocouple at the temperature range of 0 to 750 °C. Its standard tolerance is +2.2°C or +0.75°C % which best suits these thermocouple.

Type E Temperature Range
- Thermocouple grade wire: -454 to 1600°F (-270 to 870°C)
- Extension wire: 32 to 392°F (0 to 200°C)

결론
The Type E 열전대 is a reliable, accurate, and flexible choice for temperature measurement across many industrial, laboratory, and research applications. Its strong signal, high accuracy, and resistance to magnetic interference set it apart from other thermocouple types, especially when working with moderate temperatures and fast-changing conditions. While it’s not the best option for vacuum or sulphuric environments, its advantages often outweigh these limitations for most users.
자주 묻는 질문
What color code is used for Type E thermocouple wires?
Type E thermocouple wires are generally color-coded with purple (positive) and red (negative), according to international standards.
How often should a Type E thermocouple be calibrated?
Calibration is recommended at least annually, or more often if used in critical or high-cycling applications.
Does Type E thermocouple need special extension wires?
Yes, extension wires should match the Type E thermocouple material to prevent errors from material differences.
How does ambient atmosphere affect Type E accuracy?
Type E thermocouples should be protected from vacuum, low oxygen, and sulphur-rich environments, as these conditions can alter sensor performance and lifespan.
