Muffle furnaces are commonly used in laboratories & factories, providing a safe & effective means of heat treating materials at temperatures of or above 1200 deg C. What is a Muffle Furnace?

This device is used specifically for heating materials using a heat resistant insulated chamber (muffle) to remove the risk of direct flame or combustion gases touching the sample(s). The isolation of the heating chamber from the muffle allows for even and uniform heating of the sample(s) with no potential contamination of the sample(s). This makes this type of device an excellent choice for analytical procedures requiring very precise material testing or thermal treatments where purity and accuracy are essential to meets the requirements of the end user.

Types of Muffle Furnace

  1. MF112, 1.5 Liter Compact Muffle Furnace (100 mm x 100 mm x 150 mm)(H X W X D) at 2.0 KW is a compact,and therefore suitable for assorted testing in laboratories.
  2. MF312, 5 Liter Muffle Furnace (Internal 95 mm x 175 mm x 300 mm) (H X W X D)  provides 2.8 kW of heating power and is ideal for analytical processes with medium to high capacities.
  3. MF412, 7.9 Liter Muffle Furnace (Inside 150 mm x 175 mm x 300 mm) (H X W X D)   provides 3.2 kW of heating power and is suitable for use when additional capacity is needed to process a higher number of samples compared to the MF312.
  4. MF512, 18.5 Liter Muffle Furnace (Inside 230 mm x 200 mm x 400 mm) (H X W X D) provides 8 kW and is used by manufacturing plants, manufacturers and laboratories that have requirements for increased number of samples and production of larger quantities of materials using similar methods.

How Does a Muffle Furnace Work?

High Temperature Muffle Furnace contain Iron-Chromium-Aluminum (FeCrAl) heater units that supply reliable heat to a silicon carbide muffle chamber. An N-type thermocouple sensor continuously measures and sends this information to a seven segment display within the PID controller (±1 °C). The solid-state relay or thyristor unit regulates the electricity to the heater in order to keep accurate temperature control according to set temperatures. The special construction of ultra-high purity alumina insulation vacuum formed around pre-sintered fiber board reduces heat loss. The double shell (with cooling fans) also lowers external surface temperature to maintain operator safety. A limit switch connected to the furnace door automatically disconnects the electrical power to the heater, and limiters to limit overheating meet the Class 2 heat requirement under EN 60519-2. Break protection and overloads in thermocouples protect against runaway heating failures in order to provide safe use and dependability.
