ABOUT

Introduction

Tempsens offers the open coil heater and the sinusoidal strip heater as cost-effective solutions for high temperature industrial heating. These elements consist of coiled resistance wire or strip, made from Ni-Chrome alloys or Kanthal, mounted on a supporting insulation body such as a ceramic tube, ceramic fiber board, or insulation refractories.
These heaters provide a very short warm-up time and are very energy efficient because of the direct transfer of heat to the target material through radiation (without insulation) by using watt densities of up to 3 W/cm², with operating temperatures of up to 1100°C. The open coil heater and sinusoidal strip heater from Tempsens are designed for use in the most demanding furnace and industrial environments. Both heaters can be utilized with SSR, SCR, relay, and RTD control types and are available in custom lengths and termination configurations.

Frequently Asked Questions

Find answers to frequently asked questions related to Open Coil and Sinusoidal Strip Heaters.

An open coil heater is made of coiled heating element wire that has been arranged into a helical shape, and a sinusoidal strip heater is made of flat resistance wire that has been shaped into a wavy pattern. Although both can be used for heating applications in furnaces and air, they differ in geometric shape and watt density distribution.

Open coil and sinusoidal strip heaters provide faster heat up times than enclosed or sheathed heater designs because they transfer heat by radiance directly into the surrounding material (air or water) without an insulation layer between them.

Whether an open coil heater produces even or concentrated heating is determined by the element’s winding density and coil spacing. With a compactly designed coiled nozzle, an open coil heater enables full 360° heat output, with an optional way for evenly distributing the output wattage.
