Accurate Low Range Temperature Measurement using Platinum Element and Heating Effect of Resistance
Platinum is the most commonly used material for industrial RTD. However, Copper and Nickel are also used for some applications.

Resistance Temperature Detectors commonly abbreviated as RTD consists of Platinum elements seperated with compact MgO and covered with SS or its grade which is also termed as sheath. Commonly used element is PT-100 whose electrical resistance is 100ohm at a temperatre of 0 Deg.C. This resistance changes with variation in the temperature and the same principle is used for precised temperature measurement. Other elements may be PT-50, PT-200, PT-500, PT-1000. PT-5000 based on industrial application and accuracy requirements. RTDs are the better choice for high grade accuracy and very low / negative industrial temperature measurement.
