RTDs with Thermowells / Protection Tubes in UAE & Gulf
Introduction
In industrial environments across the UAE & Gulf regions where temperature reliability defines safety, product quality, and system efficiency, RTDs with thermowells remain one of the most engineered and structurally resilient sensing assemblies available today. They combine the inherent accuracy and long-term stability of platinum resistance temperature detectors with the protective strength of a thermowell—allowing the sensing element to perform predictably even when the surrounding process is chemically aggressive, mechanically turbulent, or pressure-intensive.
An RTD featuring a thermowell is simply a thermometer consisting of a precision Pt-element, encased in a closed-end metallic tube. This construction shields the sensing element from the damaging effects of high-velocity flow, corrosion, erosion, vibration, and pressure cycling while maintaining efficient thermal conduction to the RTD tip. Because the thermowell isolates the sensor from the process boundary, the RTD can be withdrawn, calibrated, or replaced without interrupting plant operation, improving maintenance safety and instrumentation uptime.
Tempsens engineers RTD-thermowell assemblies for the full spectrum of industrial temperature regimes—from cryogenic handling at –200°C to furnace and reactor control approaching 850°C. Our thermowells come in barstock, fabricated, welded, flanged and tapered configurations, designed to receive complicated mechanical loads and to meet ASME PTC 19.3 TW wake-frequency calculations, which guarantee structural integrity to flow-induced stresses.Every assembly is built around DIN IEC 751–compliant Pt100/Pt500/Pt1000 elements, calibrated in our NABL-accredited laboratory for traceability, and paired with materials such as SS316L, Inconel 600 series, Hastelloy, and titanium to align with the process chemistry and operating envelope.

FAQ
Frequently Asked Questions
Find answers to frequently asked questions related to RTDs with Thermowells / Protection Tubes.
A Pt100 RTD is a temperature sensor based on platinum that has a resistance of 100 Ω at 0 °C. A thermowell is a closed-end protective metal sleeve which protects the RTD from the process conditions which could involve pressure, chemical attack, velocity and mechanical shock. The thermowell allows the RTD to be replaced or recalibrated without interrupting the process.
Platinum has a near linear and extremely stable resistance-temperature relationship and has low drift over time. Pt100 elements have a consistent accuracy, good repeatability and very good material stability over a wide range of temperatures (-200 °C to 850 °C), which makes them the international standard for reasonable accuracy for industrial temperature measurement.Tempsens Pt100 RTDs are specifically calibrated to perform reliably in the challenging conditions found throughout UAE and Gulf industrial environments.
The selection depends on system design:
- Pt100 is preferred for high-accuracy industrial systems using 3-wire or 4-wire configurations, where cable resistance can be compensated.
- Pt1000 is advantageous in 2-wire circuits, long cable runs, and battery-powered or low-power installations because the higher base resistance reduces the influence of lead resistance and lowers self-heating effects.
Both are accurate; the choice is driven by wiring configuration, allowable uncertainty, and installation constraints. A certified Tempsens professional can assist you in finding the best temperature measuring device or technique for your business’s unique needs through their local application engineering expertise located in the UAE and Gulf Regions.
