What Is a Lab and Process Furnace?
Laboratory furnaces are devices designed to heat materials or to heat-treat them to improve durability. Process furnaces are similar devices but are much larger than laboratory furnaces and are intended for large-scale thermal processing operations. Both types of furnaces operate on the same principle as electric kilns or other electric heating units. In both cases, electrical energy from the AC power supply is converted into heat via heating elements, producing a constant and contaminant-free heating environment.

FAQ
Frequently Asked Questions
Find answers to frequently asked questions related to Lab and Process Furnace.
The Tempsens Box Furnace has been built with Refractory Brick or Ceramic Fiber Board Insulation. The furnace uses heating elements that have been placed on each side of the furnace for an even distribution of heat. The MoSi2 Heating Elements are rated at 1800C and the FeCrAl and SiC Heating Elements are suitable for the lower temperatures.
The box furnace has the capability to operate between 900°C-1800°C. The CF-900 will heat to 900°C and uses a NiCr heating element while the CF-1800 will heat to 1800°C using a MoSi2 heating element and is suitable for heat treating, sintering or other material processing.
Tempsens offers gas purging options (Ar, N₂, O₂, H₂, CO), as well as the option to integrate vacuum pumps, programmable PID controllers with RS232/ RS-485/ Ethernet capabilities, custom dimensions, and both water and air cooling systems.
The box furnace includes NABL-certified thermocouples, overheat protection, microprocessor-based temperature control systems, door limit switches and automated shutdown mechanisms which conform to all Industrial Safety and Operational Compliance Standards globally.
Tempsens box furnace is equipped with either refractory brick or lightweight ceramic fiber board insulation. The heating elements are positioned on chamber sides ensuring uniform temperature distribution. For temperatures up to 1600°C & 1800°C, MoSi₂ elements are used, while lower models utilize FeCrAl or SiC elements.
To minimize vibration during the handling of materials in order to reduce the risk of brittle ceramic materials and sensitive parts being exposed to mechanical shock during the thermal processing cycle.
Through the use of multiple layers of insulation along with the careful placement of heating elements (SiC, FeCrAl, MoSi2) it is possible to achieve very uniform thermal distribution (±1°C) and not experience any type of thermal gradients that could affect the quality of the finished product being processed.
The industrial bottom loading furnace operates at 1200°C, 1400°C, and 1800°C configurations with optimized heating elements for various high-temperature applications and material requirements.
Bottom loading contributes to temperature uniformity by providing strategically placed heating elements, multiple layers of insulation that allow for diffuse thermal distribution and no thermal gradient that would adversely affect material quality.
Bottom loading reduces the amount of vibration experienced during material handling; making it the best approach to handling brittle ceramics and delicate glass components that need as little mechanical disturbance as possible.
Main types of furnace include muffle furnaces, high-temperature furnaces, tubular furnaces, bottom loading furnaces, vacuum furnaces, electric ovens, annealing furnaces, chamber furnaces, bogie hearth furnaces, and microwave furnaces for diverse laboratory and industrial applications.
Industrial process furnaces (for example) are large-volume production-furnaces designed for high-volume production (up to 40,000 liters) and automatically control the amount of gas and or electric heat that runs through the furnace while laboratory or research & testing based furnaces, are small precision instruments used for research, test results, and testing of small batches materials with very specific temperature-control parameters.
Tempsens offers furnaces covering a wide range of temperature requirements, including laboratory furnaces (500°C–3000°C), industrial furnaces (250°C–3000°C), laboratory and industrial ovens (50°C–500°C), and microwave furnaces (250°C–3000°C), depending on the heating element and application requirements.
